Responsibilities & Duties Executes analytical testing for direct raw materials, consumables and in-process samples in support of commercial manufacturing (primarily Devens Cell Therapy Operations).
Serves as analyst for material and particulate characterization, including performing analytical testing (optical microscopy, FT-IR, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy, NMR, Particle sizing, Raman, NIR, etc.
), reviewing and interpreting data, and authoring of protocols and reports.
Implements materials testing strategies, policies, directives, and procedures to ensure standardization.
Maintains analytical equipment, ensuring qualifications, calibrations, and maintenance of equipment is completed by internal or external parties.
Identifies, evaluates, and implements emerging technologies related to material characterization to ensure analytical capabilities are established and maintained.
Supports analytical teams on complex, high value projects or in support of high-risk material investigations.
Executes analytical training program and trains on techniques as applicable.
May have formal supervisory responsibility for junior analytical material scientists.
Coordinates and oversees analytical testing performed at contract testing laboratories.
Participates in cross functional teams (i.
e.
, Supply Chain, Quality Compliance and Assurance, Manufacturing, Procurement) for material characterization and particulate characterizations.
Required Experience Relevant scientific or engineering discipline (i.
e.
:
analytical chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, forensic sciences) Bachelor's degree with minimum 10 years of relevant experience Masters or PhD is preferred but not required.
Time spent in advanced degree programs may be considered as equivalent relevant experience.
Understanding and demonstrated application of analytical techniques such as microscopy, spectroscopy, and chromatography.
Experience in managing analytical laboratories and knowledge of relevant equipment and techniques.
Knowledge of good documentation practices, cGMP, and regulatory requirements.
Demonstrated ability to take initiative, prioritize objectives from multiple projects, and to adhere to scheduled timelines while maintaining flexibility.
Demonstrated problem solving ability, attention to detail, and analytical thinking.
Awareness of cGMP compliance and regulatory agency requirements.
Strong work ethic and ability to mentor junior staff.
Strong oral communication and technical writing skills are essential.
Demonstrated ability to effectively navigate ambiguity and complexity, and translate into accomplishing challenging goals & objectives Demonstrated aptitude for collaboration, relationship building, and influencing without authority in a matrixed environment Demonstrated excellence for verbal and written communication, and presentation skills Demonstrated effective organizational skills to manage several projects and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment Demonstrated proficiency & adaptability with related software tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Sharepoint, etc.
